Who We Are

Flashback is your "80s Night" entertainment solution. Life moves pretty fast, so if you're feeling the need for speed, we’re gonna give you a totally tubular, 80s-themed evening - wigs and all. We play so many hits from the 80s you’ll want to shout and let it all out all night long, and we're constantly adding new (well...old) songs to shake your crimped hair to. Dearly beloved, strap on your high tops because we're gonna rock your socks off with 1.21 gigawatts of energy and flash you back to times you'll never forget (or maybe the times you never remembered?).

We are a 5-piece band providing people of all ages entertainment in Houston and its surrounding area. We are available for large and small public events, private parties, corporate functions, weddings, and clubs.

We are capable of providing our own sound and lighting equipment for just about any event.

Lauren

Lead Vocals, Keytar, Percussion

Lauren lives in Sugar Land, TX with her husband and son.  After graduating from Texas A&M, a Digital Marketing Specialist and Web Designer by day, Lauren joined a band in 2009 and never looked back!  She has performed at many notable venues including The House of Blues, Hard Rock Cafe, The Houstonian, Ellington Field, and Sugar Land Town Square.  Growing up, she played piano and was the principal French horn player in the band for most of high school.  She’s also been a soloist at St. Laurence Catholic Church since 2000.  Her greatest musical influences are Ann Wilson of Heart, Michael Jackson, Prince, Betty Buckley, and Lady Gaga.  Her favorite 80s era music groups are Heart, Def Leppard, The Cars, Journey, and Van Halen.  In 2016, Lauren had the pleasure of meeting and singing with Ann & Nancy Wilson of Heart and got high praise.  When she’s not trying to melt your face off on stage, she’s also been seen around town singing the National Anthem for the Houston Astros, Houston Dynamo, Houston Dash, Sugar Land Skeeters/Space Cowboys, and a sold out crowd at RodeoHouston 2018.

Robert

Lead Vocals, Bass Guitar

Holding down the low end, Robert is at home playing in the pocket. Growing up playing bass and singing in punk rock bands, he cut his teeth playing fast paced covers of NOFX and Bad Religion. Raised on the greats of rock n’roll by his father Wendel (Soul Providers, The Generators). Playing in hardcore bands and bands that cover his favorite songs from the 90’s, helped him hone his tone and style. As time passed he graduated into other mediums for his bass. Playing praise and worship music for his church. He is also a very proficient Country/Americana player, having played in bands backing up Houston Press Award winning Artist Libby Koch and also playing with the immensely talented Americana artist Brant Croucher. He has shared the stage with acts such as Sammy Kershaw, Jerry Jeff Walker and Pat Green. Robert brings a lot of heavy rhythm and stage experience to the band, and loves to keep the songs walking and grooving.

Also, Robert owns M5 Sound. Follow Robert and M5 Sound here: https://www.facebook.com/M5soundman/

Chad

Lead Guitar, Background Vocals

Currently living in the Sugar Land, TX area, Chad has been playing guitar since the age of 14, and has played in bands and taught guitar lessons for much of his music career.  Besides playing lead guitar with Flashback, Chad has also played in multiple choirs at St. Laurence Catholic Church.  In the late ‘70s, Chad played in bands which toured the southern U.S. and opened for bands such as Tower of Power and Steppenwolf.  Some of Chad’s guitar influences include Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Steve Morse, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Steve Lukather and Ritchie Blackmore.

Wendel

Drums, Vocals

Wendel was born in Deep East Texas but, as they say ‘round these parts, he got here as quick as he could!  Growing up in Houston, he was hooked early on by the swingin’ sounds of the junior high jazz band and gravitated to the drums.  After following a long line of ūber-talented drummers through Westbury High School, he went on to Texas A&M where he proudly played in the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band.  While in college, he also honed his chops in countless classic rock, blues and country bands to help pay the bills.

However, it was after graduation – in the raucous Washington Avenue music scene of the 90’s – where Wendel really “went to school” as a founding member of well-known local acts such as The Generators, Johnny Boy and the Kings, and The Soul Providers.  It was during this time where he reached what he considers his musical pinnacle – opening for the band Kansas!  He also held down the drum chair with 8-Track Mind, Pinball Lizard, and The Party Favors for most of the decade.  Since those days, Wendel has been playing with Different Beast – an eclectic group of great friends that make some pretty good music in their spare time.

He is now solidly planted behind the drum kit, laying down the grooves for Flashback, and is especially thrilled to be playing in a band with his oldest son, Robert – a first for them! Wendel is married with four awesome kids and 5 “awesome-er” grandkids.  After many years in suburbia, he and his wife Debbie now make their home in The Heights.

Kyle

Keyboards, Background Vocals

Kyle has been playing keyboards in clubs, festivals, and parties all around the Houston area for 25 years. His musical interests cover rock, blues, soul, country … just about anything that harkens back to the days of vinyl. If you corner him after a set, he’ll more than likely play a few riffs from the tunes of his piano hero, Elton John, if you ask!
